2.1252 SEKONDA STRELA-3017 SPACE CHRONOGRAPH, USSR 1970s

$45.21 $63.29
A highly collectible Soviet chronograph from the 1970s, this Sekonda-branded Strela / Poljot 3017 is one of the most historically significant wrist chronographs of the USSR era. Watches of this type are closely associated with Soviet aviation and cosmonaut use, and the Strela family is especially famous for its connection to the Soviet space programme. The black dial SEKONDA model appeared onboard the Soyuz-28 mission with Alexey Gubarev and Vladimir Remek, were launched on March 2, 1978. The crew docked with the orbiting Salyut-6 space station. On Gubarev’s wrist a black STRELA (labeled SEKONDA) – see more details. This example features the desirable black dial configuration with two subdials, outer Tachymetre scale and inner Telemeter scale, plus attractive green luminous plots and hand infill – an unmistakable mid-century Soviet tool-watch design. Excellent vintage condition overall. The case shows only light wear consistent with age. The dial is near-perfect, with clean printing and excellent visual presence. The movement is working like new after full servicing. Production know-how and tooling were transferred to the USSR in the mid-20th century, after which the 1st Moscow Watch Factory developed and produced the 3017 as one of the earliest Soviet chronograph calibres. This lineage is one of the key reasons the Strela remains so respected among collectors today. Modern Chinese Seagull chronograph movement is also a clone of the same Venus movement.
