A spectacular wristwatch conversion built around an exceptionally high-grade Hy Moser & Cie / Jules Jurgensen pocket chronometer movement dating from the 1890s. Originally housed in a solid gold pocket watch case, the precious metal case did not survive history and was most likely melted down long ago, while the valuable Swiss movement itself was preserved. For this reason, a new classical steel wristwatch case was purpose-built, giving this outstanding mechanism a second life in the form of a bold, contemporary 49 mm wristwatch. This piece is not simply a watch, it is a portable chronometer museum, carrying one of the finest achievements of 19th-century Swiss precision engineering into the present day. About Hy Moser & Cie Hy Moser & Cie was founded in 1826 by Johann Heinrich Moser. Moser’s factory produced a wide range of pocket watches for both men and women in a large variety of different types and styles, which became so popular that the company began to have a consistent problem with counterfeits. In 1868, Moser, together with the American Florentino-Ariosto Jones, created a new watch company called the ‘International Watch Company’, which became a pioneer of the industrial production of watches in Switzerland. The Hy Moser & Cie factory was revived in Schaffhausen, Switzerland in 2005, and is now among the top ten independent watch manufactories. It produces interesting luxury watches with special functions. Remarkably, the designs from the original samples of vintage Moser movements are echoed in the basic style and shape of the movements produced today.
